Educational activities to promote HIV/AIDS risk perceptions in university students of Manicaragua municipality

Abstract

Background: HIV/AIDS constitutes a problem at world level, however, the perception of risk against this illness is limited, mainly due to inadequate sexual behaviors.

Objective: to design educational actions for HIV/AIDS risk perceptions in university students belonging to the University Center of Manicaragua municipality, in Villa Clara, Cuba.

Methods: a descriptive crossed study was developed, during 2024 where methods of theoretical level, like; empiric: documental analysis, group interviews and questionnaire; and mathematical-statistical for the analysis of the investigated data, were applied to university students. The specialist’s principles were used to value the actions of the educational proposals.

Results: diagnosis allowed to confirm that some of the students either frequently change couple, or they have several couples simultaneously; others assume sexist positions and most rejects the stable and durable matrimonial union. 79.48 % out of them were situated in Low level regarding the perception of risks against HIV/AIDS; that’s why educational actions were designed, structured in three phases: orientation, execution and control.

Conclusions: the university students were assessed by means of specialists' approaches, with prevalence of Very Appropriate Category within the education of risk perception in the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases in an informative, formative and bearer order as an effective tool for an appropriate perception of HIV/AIDS risk.
