Abstract

Exposure to medications, substances of abuse, pesticides, industrial chemicals, and environmental pollutants generate clinical situations that require early recognition, risk assessment, and adequate initial management. Undergraduate medical education should provide basic competencies to respond to these problems. The inclusion of clinical toxicology in the curricular design of selected disciplines within the Plan E of the Medical curriculum would contribute to strengthening skills and competencies for the correct management of clinical conditions related to acute and chronic poisonings. For this reason, the aim of this article is to argue for the need to integrate clinical toxicology content and learning experiences into the training of medical students.
