Abstract

Background: The high morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular diseases is one of the main health problems in Cuba, that´s why the specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine must have a good performance in the clinical approach to these patients.
Objective: To describe the level of professional performance of the specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine in the care of cardiovascular risk through a clinical observation guide.
Methods: a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out at the Ramón López Peña University Polyclinic from January to June 2024. The characterization variable was professional performance, and its dimensions: medical care, communication, skills, improvement and scientific-research improvement and bioethics. Theoretical methods were used: historical-logical, analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive for the collection of information and research foundation. From the empirical level: observation. Descriptive statistics techniques were used (absolute and relative numbers).
Results: the indicators show that doctors do not master the medical care dimension (≥ 70%), while they have little mastery of the communicative dimension (89≤x≥ 70) and they do master the bioethical dimension (90≤x≥ 100); however, the frequency "never" predominated in the dimensions of improvement and scientific-research improvement. The final analysis of this instrument showed that the variable obtained a value of 48.4%, which qualifies in the decision table as “does not master”.
Conclusions: the characterization of the current state of professional performance of specialists in Comprehensive General Medicine revealed limitations in the care of patients with cardiovascular risk, with greater impacts on the medical care, improvement and scientific-research improvement dimensions.
