Academic efficiency in two cohorts of Medicine and Stomatology careers in Villa Clara

Background: academic efficiency is an important indicator for the development of education aimed at seeking policies and strategies that allow meeting the objectives for the achievement of the social mission of the university institutions.Objective: to analyze the academic efficiency in Medicine careers in the courses 2010-2011 to 2015-2016 and from 2011-2012 to 2016-2017; and in Stomatology 2011-2012 to 2015-2016 and from 2012-2013 to 2016-2017 (two cohorts in each career).
Methods: a documentary research was carried out in the University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara on trends in the promotion and academic efficiency in higher education, as the primary source of data were used the records of the teaching secretary of the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry as well as as promotion reports of the academic courses analyzed.
Results: in the Medicine career the promotion fluctuated between 85.53 and 94.73, with an efficiency of 51.01 and 56.72 respectively; in Stomatology the promotion was above 95.41 in both cohorts and the efficiency was between 86.52 and 88.07; as a relevant result the figures of this last race stand out for being superior.
Conclusions: it was possible to demonstrate the academic efficiency in both careers taking as a reference two cohorts, through statistics; they constituted important data that allowed to monitor the permanence of the students in those cycles and to project the plan of improvements and a real evaluation of said indicator.
