To the editor:

The publication of the article "Methodological actions for the consolidation of values in students from sociocultural management" is of great value, in the EDUMECENTRO 2020 journal; 12 (4), both because of the importance it has for the professional development of the individual and their constant interaction with society, and because of the effort that Cuba makes every day in the training of health personnel capable of interacting anywhere in the world as health ambassadors.

It is in this sense that sociocultural management becomes a tool for the formation and consolidation of values in the academic space, since among the functions of its graduates it is intended that they be facilitators of the affirmation and construction of personal and social identity, the appreciation and consolidation of ethical and aesthetic values, and the deployment of creativity, communication and social participation; they are all formations of wide application for the future of Cuban society.(1)

The challenges facing current medicine are innumerable: the advance in the biological knowledge of the human being and its diseases as well as the development of new technologies, which affect the professional care of the patient; At the same time, it has been possible to verify its negative effect in a practice of medicine that is far from ethics, a medical practice with loss of values, sometimes translated into an inadequate doctor-patient relationship, and as a consequence, the perception of poor quality of health care and care for the individual.

Cultural, social and political changes are factors that strongly impact the medical profession; For this reason, these professionals need to integrate the humanistic contents and values to the scientific contents in order to carry out an ethical analysis of the problems of contemporary medicine and find the point of balance between scientific and technological advances, respect for dignity and life of the human being.(2)

In Cuban society, the growing responsibility of health professionals is recognized from whose training curricula wide cultural resources are intended; however, sometimes there are no foundations for citizen training from an epistemological approach that allows its contextualization towards an active and responsible education. Generally it is oriented towards the principles of medical ethics or they receive some brushstrokes from medical rights; therefore, opportune alternatives must be found to eliminate empiricism and spontaneity in this social entrustment.(3)

Dear editor: No doubt, we will be training more sensitive professionals with comprehensive training in their daily activities. For this reason, the authors of this letter reiterate their agreement with what was stated in the aforementioned article published in the journal, which emphasizes once again the importance of the formation of values in health professionals, from a planned sociocultural management.
